Fat Mahinda
April 11, 2007 at 4.47 pmI’m currently Fat Mahinda. Okay, so I’m nowhere near my "he’s big, he’s round, he’s bounces on the ground" zenith of lardiness, but I’m not exactly fighting fit. Or anywhere near it.
Over the Christmas period, I cooked two Christmas dinners — Snow White Christmas on December 25th, and Tenby Towers Christmas on January 13th.
Now, we don’t have suitable weighing scales for a turkey (or breast joint thereof), so I used the highly scientific "weight by difference" method:
- Mahinda stands on man-sized weighing scales, and notes down weight* A.
- Mahinda picks up turkey and gets back on scales, then notes down weight B.
- B — A = weight of turkey, including stuffing.
* Rosy, if you even DARE to point out that this should be "mass"…
That’s all well and good, and it worked a charm. HOWEVER, it really pointed out to me how much good living I was guilty of during the holiday period:
- Weight A (25th Dec): 14st 7lbs
- Weight A (13th Jan): 15st 7lbs
So why am I blogging this now? Well, under normal circumstances, I’d have trimmed it down — hockey twice a week and some badminton with work would have taken it all right off. Unfortunately, I’ve not played anywhere near as much hockey as usual, and that’s really shown. Not only am I fat, but I’m fairly unfit right now too. Not good.
I’m not usually much concerned about my weight, to be honest, but thought you lot should know.
This weekend will involve a Go Ape! adventure course session, an afternoon hike, and a hockey tournament…should help!
…
P.S. Googling "Fat Mahinda" doesn’t return anything. It will now.

Now, actually your method of turkey weighing is regularly practiced in hospitals.
When I worked in A and E it was important to know kids’ weights to work out drug doses. Now injured/poorly/not very cooperative toddlers are a nightmare to try to get onto the scales, even though they were sit down ones. So regularly (much to the mothers’ shock!) I would weigh child and mother and then just mother.
Mother generally need a promise that I wouldn’t tell anyone her weight and we worked in kilos anyway so it was not immedately apparant exactly how weighty the mums were.

Babies…turkeys…meh.
*decides against the “stuffing” gag*

We use that method to weigh the dogs.
I’m currently fatter than I would like to be. I’m very much failing at dieting. Oh well…

I’m fairly sure “weight” is correct in this instance

I’m 1.5 stone heavier than I was this time last year, and struggling to make the stairs. But thankfully I’m still as sexy as hell. Better to be flabby than boring, that’s what I think anyway!
(I think this comment was designed to make you feel better…)

Mahinda “Wild Thing” K… Get growing that Mullett!
PS. I initially posted this on your last blog entry by accident.
[Ed — removed your comment from the last blog entry, and also removed my surname — this blog’s Googleable enough as it is!]

Em — dammit, but I should have checked in on my blog on Friday. Yep, it was the one in Delamere (although there are plenty more around the country, now), and we were there 11am-2pm on Saturday, after which I went on an afternoon hike to Mouldsworth with the MADwalkers.
Ailsa — welcome aboard! Fatness and fitness aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, but there’s definitely a link!

Putting [fat mahinda] into Google does give you a few hits — incidentally, King Cricket is a pretty fine site.
However, doing it properly and Googling [”fat mahinda”] (note the quotes) only gives you this post.
