I decided to head to the MUGSS social last night - despite joining up with them in Font last Thursday, I’d not been out on a Thursday night proper (i.e. starting in Harry’s) for quite some time.

So, I got to Harry’s Bar for about 10.30pm…and managed to get myself rather distressed.

For seven years of my life, Harry’s was like an extension of my living room. Then it got tarted up, so it had been more like some trendy basement for the last three years. Had.

Over the years in Harry’s, I’d:

  • Lamented the loss of the stage and pool table (with the short cues as the walls were stupidly close)
  • Welcomed a general tidy-up and watched Wednesday night football on the new big screen. Not to mention far too much cricket.
  • Been dead chuffed when six or seven hand-pumps appeared, meaning that bottled McEwen’s 80/- was no longer the only thing worth having.
  • Been utterly dismayed by the trendy re-fit, with shiny lighting and posh chairs…and a smaller bar with fewer handpumps.
  • Seen the handpump count diminish to just two, with the third (the most recent to go) replaced with a wine dispenser. A WINE dispenser! In a STUDENT bar!

Last night, I went in and it just didn’t feel like home any more emoticon

It had been three months or more since I’d been there, which is absolutely unprecedented. Sure, some of the same old MUGSS faces were there, but I felt very much like the outsider that I now am.

Maybe it’s partially down to this general lethargy that I seem to be suffering. Or maybe I really have finally left my last vestige of studentdom behind.

I went on to Spirit (on Anal Treet) with the others, and was treated to shockingly bad music before I left, at 1.30am, having had a decidedly mediocre night out. Not that I suffered bad company or anything…it’s just that it didn’t feel right.

It’s probably just me.

I got home just after 2am (having shared half the bus journey with Becky D II), and decided in my wisdom to watch another episode of 24. Oops.
