Aglets

January 16, 2006 at 12.17 pm

You know, those little stiff bits on the ends of your shoelaces.

I put a couple of pairs of shoes through the washing machine the other day, and noticed a curious thing while washing their laces. The aglets were in pretty good nick. I checked some of my other pairs of shoes and they seemed similar.

I remember when I was but a child, and aglets seemed to decay and fall off pretty soon after you got a new pair of shoes. Even when I started university, I remember that being the case - I was regularly applying Sellotape to the ends of my laces.

But now, I have shoes a couple of years old that still feature usable aglets.

Has aglet technology advanced that much? I think so!

Must be filtering down from NASA or something…

  2. Mine still shred within a couple of months. Maybe it’s just because I only have one pair and I crew.
