Poor Sporting Performances

August 4, 2005 at 9.28 am

Monday saw the usual shooting shenanigans. Hit a 92. Not good.

Tuesday, and it was more hockey for me. Having finished top of our group, we were through to the finals. Top four teams from each group, playing off against each other.

Our semi-final was against Wilmslow, who’d finished 4th. We scored, then it all went wrong. First up, I got the ball at the right of our D and dribbled forward. I couldn’t see an easy pass, so tried to get past an opponent…who won the ball, ran past me and scored. Did I not like that.

The next goal was also my fault, albeit more of an unfortunate accident than a mistake. At the top edge of our D, I squared up against an opposition player, who bashed the ball against my foot. The ball looped up in the air - must have gotten about 14′ off the ground - and fell at the feet of an opposition player, who tapped it past our keeper.

They ended up winning 3-1. Bugger.

So, we ended up in the 3rd/4th place play-off, against Urmston. I was instructed to play in centre midfield, which isn’t really my favoured position, and my first impact on the game was COMPLETELY taking out Savs, one of our girlies and the smallest player on the pitch by quite some margin. At speed, I saw her in front of me, tried to stop, tripped over my own feet, and dragged her to the ground with my stick, which I couldn’t quite get out of the way in time.

Well, the opposition didn’t see it coming!

The game went 1-0 to us, then 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 (I think), before Savs and Pinch exploded to score something like 4 goals (it might have been 5!) in the last few minutes.

3rd. Oh well.

So, I now have Tuesday evenings free again for a few weeks, at least until hockey training starts up for the autumn.
